With the release of Angèle and Justice's new song "What You Want," filmed in Marseille, I wanted to talk to you about French Touch. Links to listen to the tracks are underlined, either on YouTube or on the Arte website, which I really like.
French music is very varied: rap, pop, chanson… but there is also a very special style, known throughout the world: the French Touch .
With the release of Angèle and Justice 's new track , this style is back in the spotlight. It's the perfect time to discover or rediscover it.
What is the French Touch?
French Touch is a musical movement that emerged in the 1990s. It 's a style of French electronic music , recognizable by:
very clean electronic sounds,
simple but effective melodies,
a mix of club music and pop,
a highly refined visual aesthetic.
The best-known artists of this movement are: Daft Punk , Air , Cassius , Étienne de Crécy , and of course Justice .
Thanks to them, France has become an important country in electronic music.
Why is this release generating buzz around the French Touch?
Justice is a symbol of the movement. With each new release, people talk about the French Touch again.
Angèle appeals to a younger audience. Thanks to her, new listeners are discovering this style.
The track blends pop and electro. That's exactly the spirit of French Touch: mixing genres.
French music continues to innovate. It's not a style of the past: it's still evolving today.
The French Touch today: still alive
Even though its pioneers date back to the 90s, French Touch still influences many artists:
The Blaze, David Guetta , Breakbot , Yuksek, Barbara Butch who mixed for the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the electro genre,
Christine and the Queens , Angèle , Clara Luciani in pop.
And the next generation continues with Elvis Guetta, son of David Guetta, Paloma Le Friant, daughter of Bob Sinclar, and Roxan Bangalter, son of Thomas Bangalter (one half of Daft Punk), all to be seen at the Touquet Music Beach Festival.
Beyond the music, a whole artistic and cultural universe has developed with directors like Michel Gondry, designers like M/M, H5, La Shampouineuse, advertising professionals…
French Touch is no longer just a musical style: it's a culture , an atmosphere , a French signature .
Conclusion: a return or a new stage?
The collaboration between Angèle and Justice shows that the French Touch has never disappeared. It continues to transform, open up, and inspire.
Perhaps we are witnessing a French Touch 3.0 : more pop, more modern, more accessible.
If you like French Touch, you can listen to it on Radio FG and read about it thanks to this magnificent book published for the H5 exhibition. See the French Touch .
